The Queen of Cups and the 8 of Swords

It’s a very particular and potent day of confluence, so receiving 2 cards from our Many Queens Deck was not a huge surprise. Especially these two — The Queen of Cups and the 8 of Swords — are a powerful combination for the first full day of Aquarius Sun season.

I am going to be shifting the format of these articles for the duration of Aquarius sun season, and potentially beyond, depending on how this month goes. I am doing so in response to the call from my Guides to continue dropping out of the active conscious mind and into the unconscious roots and superconscious branches of our shared existence. We have rarely known a time in lived experience so rife with urgency as the present moment.

As a mystic, a witch and a medium utilizing the primary spellcasting tool of visual art, our daily Tarot and Astrology messages will be utilized purely as arrows for me to create visual prayers and spells for the collective. I do this in a multitude of ways in my life: mandalas, sigils, spirals, collage, painting…but here we will mostly be using sigils.

Astro-glyph sigil for the union of Sun, Jupiter, Aquarius, Gemini and Cancer.

We don’t need another person explaining esoterica on the internet, we need potent and powerful tools through which to enter more focused and higher vibrational states.

Thusly, I will not be explaining the cards or the stars, I will be transmitting to you a distilled phrase of invocation and intention along with one or two sigils each day. I also must note here that one of the reasons we connect with tools such as the Tarot is because they are visual portals to another realm of consciousness. I choose Lettie Jane Rennenkamp’s Many Queens Tarot for many reasons including that her illustration style is mystical, surreal and bold — inviting us in, in, in to deeper concepts of the journey. I strongly believe that learning systems such as the Tarot and Astrology involve just as much subtle, vibrational, spirit and soul level engagement as they do active logic brain engagement.

This is a sigil for “REawaken, Carry Water”

There are plenty of resources out there to help you learn the nuts and bolts of the Tarot, Astrology and their intersection. Specifically I recommend Kate Sheridan (aka The Modern Laundress).

I urge you to utilize either or both the Tarot cards or the sigils however you like. Here are a few options:

  • After reading the article, spend a minute or so staring into the cards and/or sigils… repeatedly relaxing and releasing the conscious mind. We do this in our Saturday Scrying practice as well by drooping the eyelids and nodding the head (like you’re going to fall asleep) so as to drop into the unconscious mind.
  • Screenshot or save the image(s) and set them as your phone or computer wallpaper for the day.
  • Or if you want to get really involved, you can print or trace them out, put them on your desk or altar through the day and then burn them each night.

I feel like today cards and sigils are so applicable to all of Aquarius Sun season and the Age of Aquarius in general that you could easily work with them for longer than a single day.

So without further ado, let’s dive in.

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle Rules the World

The Queen of Cups reminds us that our Great Mother, Mama Gaia, Mother Earth is water and rules all. We must default to her wisdom always. We must keep it at the forefront of our consciousness that the environmental crisis is at the core of all our “other issues.” The power of having 5 planets in Aquarius is nothing without the ferocious maternal grace of Cancerian care.

Chop Wood, Carry Water

While Aquarius is an air sign, She is the Water Carrier. Without water to carry, the hard work of this Age cannot be executed. And akin to the Buddhist adage, we must treat tearing off the blindfold and REawakening to be just as essential to survival as chopping wood.

Build Your Intuition With The Tarot

If you’ve enjoyed today’s column, I invite you to join my weekly email group where we practice the mystical art of scrying with Maria DiStefano’s Circle of Life Tarot to improve our psychic senses and deepen our relationship to the Tarot. You can also get email notifications for this very weekday Tarot-Astrology collective readings posts that you’ve just read. Last but certainly not least, we use Lettie Jane Rennenkamp’s Many Queens Tarot for all of our weekday readings this year which is the source of the beautiful images in these posts.
